Fear is a powerful thing, one cannot simply cast aside fear and how it affects the mind and body. One of the many things is that fear affects the mind, how is it so? A human mind is like a powerful supercomputer, running on an operating base much like Microsoft Windows XP, Apple Os-X, or even Unix, which runs the core physical system. These core physical systems are the vital signs, from the heart for pumping blood and regulating temperature, the lungs for control of air in and out of the body, and eyes like the built in cameras of all new laptops. Why is it important? firstly, fear simply does not have any effect on a 'clinically' dead being, so that leaves us, the living.
Humans are like living computers, though we eat and get rid of our waste, essentially we use logic to proceed in doing thing. A typical example mind logic for going to have a shower is:
Second fear is one which is inbuilt, much like a flaw in a computer system. Unlike "terror" this fear/phobia is ingrained deep in the heart of the build of the initial programming. Thus this is a tougher fear to handle. The mind is instilled such great negative feelings and thoughts which invoke a negative response, an automatic crash to the mental function. Fear of heights is a typical example, it isn't programmed into you by someone else, you just have this fear, and you don't know why just you know that you have it.
In any case, fear is like a virus, and in the case of paranoia a venerability in the system which needs to be patched, like seeking psychiatric counselling. Fear just adversely affects the mind, and makes it do things, heightens senses to a level which it is not normally at.
Fear also affects the body in strange ways also, but this will come more to you in the following chapter of "Fear and how it affects the mind and body"

- Test Temperature
- Adjust Hot/Cold until at satisfactory level
